The Scottish Government has legislated that new safety standards for fire, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in Scottish homes are to be set in February 2022

To meet the new standards, every home must have as a minimum:
  • One Smoke Alarm in the room most frequently used for daytime living purposes

  • One Smoke Alarm in every circulation space on each storey, i.e. hall and landing

  • One Heat Alarm in every kitchen

  • A Carbon Monoxide Detector is required where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance, e.g. gas boiler, coal fire etc

  • Smoke and heat alarms must be linked with either physical wiring or a wireless system
